The Academy of the New Church varsity boys lacrosse team is off to a stellar start to their 2023 season. For the first time in program history, the team has been ranked in two national polls.
Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine announced Tuesday that the Lions have earned the No. 6 spot in the High School National Top 25, while Inside Lacrosse placed ANC at No. 13 in the Week 1 High School Power Rankings.
Coming off of a 12-3 season that saw the Lions win their eighth consecutive Friends Schools League Championship and the Mid-Atlantic Prep Championship, the team hit the ground running and are 5-0 to start their 2023 campaign.
The Lions, led by head coach Jack Forster, put themselves on the map at the beginning of the month with a 10-9 overtime victory against the defending national champions, St. John’s College High School.
Forster expressed, “We are very grateful for all the recognition on the national stage. We believe our guys have worked hard thus far to deserve to be considered one of the top teams in the country. I think it is great for our program, our school, and our community in many ways. We believe our goals remain the same and we stay grounded through all the talk and outside noise to keep focusing on getting better as a team each day.”
