ANC Esteemed Alumni David Radcliffe is Veterans Day Speaker!

Every year, to celebrate Veterans Day, ANC invites an alumni to speak to our students about their experience serving in the US military. In addition, a wider invite goes out to all local veterans to come hear the speaker and be honored with a standing ovation by our students. This year David Radcliffe (pictured far left) shared his story.

David Radcliffe served with the 1st Ranger Battalion as a non-commissioned officer.

David graduated from the Academy of the New Church Secondary School in 1981 and received and associate degree from the Bryn Athyn College in 1983.

David’s career has taken many twists and turns. He taught high school courses at the Washington New Church School, ran a plant nursery, refereed soccer, and pursued a number of other interests professionally. He found a passion in foreign policy and national security and continued his public service as a career civilian at the Pentagon where he developed expertise in African defense and security, counterterrorism, cyberspace strategy and policy, defense workforce development, security cooperation, and other areas. He deployed to Afghanistan for a year, lived in Germany helping to stand up a new Defense command for Africa, worked for a U.S. Senator as his defense advisor, and graduated from the National War College. His last role before retiring was helping other countries develop their defense cyber organizations and workforces.

In retirement, David is able to be far more serious about mountain biking, open water distance swimming, and trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He and his wife Heather and their three kids, Ivy, Tim, and Charlotte, live in Maryland and are part of the Mitchellville society.
