Denise DiFiglia earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Gwynedd Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley, PA and has over 20 years of experience in high school admissions.
We recently sat down with Denise to learn more about her life, work, and the admissions process at ANC.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I am currently in my 11th year as Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at ANC and I am certain I’ve got the BEST job ever!
How has the admissions process changed this year due to COVID-19? A lot of things look different this year! While we have been able to meet with families in person and provide socially distanced tours of campus, we unfortunately have not been able to welcome prospective students to shadow during the school day. IOWA testing and New Church Overview transitioned to being offered virtually, thanks to the work of Jennifer Allen, our Associate Director of Admissions. What hasn’t changed is our ability to connect and interact with families. One of my favorite parts of this job is having the opportunity to chat with parents and get to know more about their families.
How would you advise families to get to know ANC if they aren't able to visit campus? Families that are unable to visit campus should watch our virtual tour, and join us for a Virtual Open House! When COVID-19 hit, our team had to pivot and create a Virtual Open House. I will admit that I was concerned about logistics, and worried about effectively showcasing our school in a virtual format. Thanks to our administration, faculty and students, I believe the families that attended our first event felt the warmth and excitement that ANC has to offer right through their screens!
Will there be other Virtual Open Houses in the future that families can attend? Yes! Our next Virtual Open House will be held on Sunday, February 21st from 2pm to 3pm. Families interested in attending can register by visiting www.ancss.org/openhouse.
What is the best thing about your job? I love meeting new families! Nothing makes me happier than hearing a prospective family say their child is ready to start the next day, or comment about how friendly and welcoming everyone at ANC is.
Do you have any pets? I live with Mr. Chooch, my foster “fail” cat. He’s very mellow and enjoys finding the sun for his napping enjoyment. He was named for the Phillies Catcher, Chooch Ruiz because like the Phillies catcher, he has short legs. He is the best!
What is your dream vacation? Two years ago I took one of my bucket list trips. A group of friends and I took a cruise through Alaska and the views were absolutely breathtaking at every turn. It was definitely a vacation that I will remember forever! Next on my bucket list is to visit Italy and Greece, but that will have to wait for now.
