Performing Arts Camp | June 2025
Rehearse and perform "Madagascar, JR."
ANC Performing Arts Camp is a theatrical experience for current 6th, 7th & 8th graders, culminating in a performance of "Madagascar, Jr." Our professional group of teachers lead campers through the process of blocking, vocal production, learning choreography, and character development as well as rehearsing and performing a show! The camp is held in the Mitchell Performing Arts Center located on the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools campus and runs weekdays 9am-4pm, June 18-27, 2025, with performances on Saturday, June 28 at 11am & 1:30pm.
This camp will foster the imagination, creativity and practical performance skills of the campers as well as provide a positive space to make new friends. Campers will be exposed to many aspects of theater; those who are newer to this art form will be given an introduction and those with experience will be pushed to advance their skills. The camp will feature break-out sessions such as props, set painting, theatrical/jazz dance technique and theatrical make-up, as well as rehearsals for the performance of “Madagascar, JR.”
Camp sessions will run from 9am to 4pm with a 30 minute lunch break. The first day of camp will run 9am-3pm. Campers should bring their own brown bag lunch and will have access to a refrigerator and microwave. All campers will be included onstage for the performances of Disney’s “Madagascar JR.” which will be at 11am & 1:30pm on Saturday, June 28th, at the Mitchell Performing Art Center.
The cost of Performing Arts Camp is $550 which includes a keepsake script, digital download of the dress rehearsal video, and camp t-shirt. Campers will be provided with a costume to wear during the performance but are required to provide their own dance shoes and undergarments as well as rehearsal clothing. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due at registration and final payment is due by May 1, 2025. There is a discount of $50 off the camp total for deposits received before March 1, 2025. Gift certificates in any denomination are available for purchase. For more information, please email sarah.waelchli@ancss.org or call 267.502.2678.

Madagascar Jr:
Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends – Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo – have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape – with the help of some prodigious penguins – to explore the world.
Filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score, Madagascar JR. will leave audiences with no choice but to “Move It, Move It!”
Performances are Saturday, June 28th at 11am & 1:30pm.
