Student Life
Residence Life | Dorm Health Services
When a dorm student feels sick, he or she must see the school nurse to determine whether or not she will attend school or stay in for the day. Students should go to the clinic by 7:45 to make that determination. If the student stays in the dormitory at any time during the day, that student is not permitted to take part in any activities or sporting events after school or in the evening.
Any student taking routine medication must be seen by the nurse at the beginning of the year. The dorm staff is not made up of health care professionals, therefore the school nurse will dispense medication from her office. Other medical needs are handled on a case-by-case basis. We will communicate with parents when any needs arise which are deemed to be outside of routine care for colds, flu, or minor accidents or illnesses. We encourage communication from parents regarding any special requests related to handling a student's health needs. It may be necessary for a sick resident to recover at home, or for the parent to be on site during the student's recovery.
Expenses incurred for prescription drugs, visits to the doctor's office, tests, x-rays and emergency treatment are the responsibility of the parents. Parents are strongly urged to provide Student Health Services with a copy of insurance cards for their students, and to encourage students to carry their cards with them.
Students who are ill while living in the dorm are cared for in their dormitory room, rather than removed to an infirmary.
