Student Life
Student Health | Counseling
When an ANC student is in need of counseling there are a number of resources available.
Academic Advisors
Academic advisors play a key role in the life of ANC students. Advisors serve as the first line of defense for students in need of academic assistance or advice, but are also available to their advisees for counseling in other areas, such as time or stress management.
College and Career Counseling
Beth Nehlig Lutz provides college and career counseling services to all ANC students.
School Nurse
ANC's school nurse, Mrs. Allyn Simons, is available to ANC students for confidential health counseling.
School Chaplain
Rev. Mauro dePádua serves as ANC Chaplain. Rev. dePádua is available to each student for any personal and confidential counseling. Alternatively, students may request counseling from other ministers on the ANC staff or other ministers affiliated with the Bryn Athyn Church.
Peer Helpers
Peer Helpers are students who have been trained in communication and life skills. Peer Helpers are available to students when they would like the help of a peer rather than a faculty member. Peer Helpers:
- Are available to the person needing help whenever possible
- Listen
- Keep confidentiality
- Help the person solve their own problems
- Refer the person to a professional when needed
Growth Opportunity Center
Through Dr. Saul Fisher and the Growth Opportunity Center, a trained professional counselor can be available to any student who desires counseling from someone other than an ANC staff member. This is an important service since some students do desire complete confidentiality and are reluctant to use ministers, faculty or other staff members. Dr. Fisher has been associated with the Bryn Athyn community for over thirty years, and he will insist that his staff not counsel students outside of our religious beliefs. Short term counseling is free for students and parents. Confidentiality is observed at all times except in situations when danger to oneself or another person is concerned. Parent(s) or guardian(s) will be contacted in emergency situations. The contact number is 215-947-8117.
