Congratulations to ANC Winning Teams

ANC teams have distinguished themselves this year, adding championships in Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, and a strong second-place showing in Girls Softball to earlier champs in Football and Field Hockey. All of our teams will be honored at the Spring Sports Awards this Thursday night.

The Softball ladies, in particular, shined, losing a well-played game 7-4 against an 11-0 Friends Select team that had given up only 8 runs in those 11 games. They defeated the #2 seed in the semifinals to make the championship round for the first time in ANC history.

Their counterparts in Lacrosse defeated Abington Friends to win the Quaker Cup. Meanwhile, the Boys Lacrosse team had beat Shipley 13-6 for the Friends League Championship, and made it into the InterAc Tourney against some of the top teams in the country, before falling to Germantown Academy 3-8.

All our teams will be honored at the Spring Sports Awards Thursday Night, May 26th. It will be the final Awards Night for retiring Athletic Director Shawn Synnestvedt. Join us at the Asplundh Field House at 7:30 PM to celebrate our athletes and coaches. Light refreshments will be served following the presentations.

New Principal for the Girls School

Managing Director Jim Adams has announced that he is appointing Kira Schadegg as the next Girls School principal, with the unanimous consensus of a search committee comprised of faculty, administration and trustees.

Mrs. Schadegg, center, with colleagues being honored by the senior girls at their recent Medieval Feast at Glencairn Museum.

From Mr. Adams' announcement:

"Kira’s dedication to the New Church, New Church education, and the mission of the Girls School is remarkable. She also has an impressive resume of experience in the Girls School and wider community. These range from her superb teaching in the classroom to working with students in a variety of forums, to her leadership within the faculty to her many years of service with the Fire Company. Her love for the students is evident, as is her desire to support and lead the faculty. Kira is very energetic and organized. She has an amazing work ethic and a can-do attitude that is contagious. I believe that she will be a fine leader for the Girls School and look forward to working with her."

Mr. Adams thanked outgoing principal Sue Odhner for her years of dedication to the Girls School, acknowledging what she has contributed and anticipating her efforts to prepare Mrs. Schadegg to take the reins next year.
