Boys School

The ANC Boys School was established in 1881 as part of the Academy of the New Church. In 1884 a Girls School was added to create the ANC Secondary Schools. Today, more than 130 years later, our Boys School continues to provide a structured and caring environment that strives to enhance the civil, moral, and spiritual lives of our students.

At the Boys School we provide more than just a stellar preparatory education. Because we are a New Church school, we focus on religious instruction as well as academics. We challenge every student to behave with integrity, develop their conscience, grow academically, and become courageous and kind leaders at ANC and in life.

Our academic program is tailored specifically to meet the needs of our boys. We offer a careful balance of rigorous single-gender courses and collaborative co-educational courses. Freshmen benefit from a structured schedule of mostly single-gender courses and progress to taking mostly co-educational courses senior year. In every course—single-gender or co-educational—we strive to provide a challenging and caring environment for our boys to succeed academically.

In extracurriculars, our students enjoy a careful balance of single-gender and co-educational offerings. Our competitive athletic programs are tailored specifically for our boys, while our arts offerings and community service club give our boys opportunities to collaborate with the Girls School.

At the Boys School, we provide for all the best aspects of an all boys education—from strong male role models to the distraction-free environment of single-gender classes. And they also receive the advantages of a co-educational school—from shared athletic pride to collaboration in the performing arts.

Principal's Message

In the Boys School we are about more than just grades; we offer an opportunity for every student to develop his civil, moral, and spiritual life. We strive to provide our boys with relevant religious instruction, rigorous academics, and varied extracurriculars, all arranged in a system of masculine mentorship designed to instill wisdom in our students. Our goal is to help our boys grow into men who are wise, both intellectually and morally. We work hard to introduce our students to the knowledge and virtues that lead to the judgment of rational wisdom and the justice of moral wisdom.

We ask our students to be brave and to make a difference. The Boys School program challenges our students to develop masculine conscience, to grow academically, to make good decisions, and to become leaders who exercise courage, kindness, and integrity. We also offer our boys the chance to be part of something bigger than themselves; we ask everyone on our campus to engage in a life of social responsibility through avenues such as our community service club and the chapel program in the boys dorm.

What makes the Boys School truly special is the quality of the staff and students who live our mission with inspiration and confidence. We are able to strike a fine and constantly adjusting balance between firm guidelines and bold dreams, between grounded realities and soaring ideals. As principal of the Boys School, I have the opportunity to witness incredible people doing incredible things every day. The relationships that are formed at ANC are based on a very high level of mutual respect, compassion, and a strong desire for what is best for each individual.

What happens at ANC—whether it be in the classroom or on the field, court, or stage—is simply excellent. I am proud and humbled to be part of such a fantastic family.
