Fall 2011 Awards

Wow, what a volleyball season. We started with camp (our very first) at the end of August. Eleven girls showed up, four 7th and 8th graders and the rest from secondary school. Now, I must tell you that I was a little bit worried over those numbers but, much to my surprise when school started another fourteen girls arrived for that first day of practice. We had a number of girls returning to the volleyball program and also a number of new players which was exciting to see.

This was the first year to be playing volleyball in the fall, having always played in the winter semester. With moving to the fall it required the program to play a number of schools that we have never faced along with a few from our previous league. They all had great programs with many talented players and we had our work cut out for us. We had a number of girls who returned that had varsity level playing time so we had a core group to build on. Our goal was to be competitive no matter who or where we played. I feel that the girls succeeded in doing this in the majority of our matches. Our record as indicated above may seem to be a bit lopsided. But as I stated before we were competitive in most of them. It has always been my contention that to become a better player (in any sport) you must face better competition.

Both teams (V & JV) played hard and with a great sense of pride. I believe they gave it their all and played to the best of their abilities.
