From the Coaches

Fall 2011 Awards
From Bunlet and Captain Haggard to random exclamations of “Awkward” or “Raspberry Danish,” this 2010 tennis season has been characterized by whacky nicknames and whimsical antics.  The end of the season captains’ practice would be a prime example for instance, where every girl except for Kool Ko-Kaptain Kuhl dressed in bizarre clothing and posed for Avri’s variation of a mug shot – the final famed result being a delightful team photo given to each of the coaches J. (With high jinks like these, who needs comic relief?)

This fall the fates seemed a bit against us…we’re thinking the wettest August /September of all time? Needless to say we had a number of rain-outs, rescheduled or simply canceled matches due to all that sogginess and treacherous footing.   The girls got quite familiar with “hitting off the wall” in the newer gym as we adapted multiple times to those temperamental skies and other teams’ needs for rescheduling.  But, in another sense, the season was quite productive…since we only had eight girls this year, just enough for Varsity, each girl got A LOT of playing time, and with our relative youth and inexperience, that much match play will help build skills and mental toughness for future seasons.  For that we are very grateful.  Speaking of gratitude - the coaches would like to express a special thank you to senior, Deanna Walsh, for joining the team this season.  Deanna not only took on playing this year, but she helped to ensure that we would have a full roster despite some challenges. We shall definitely miss her next fall.

And thank-you to all those parents or folk who have cheered for us, fed us, driven us around, and/or hosted us in some way. We are blessed to have such loyal, caring supporters. Thank you as well to Brian Parsons and the Athletic Department gang who continue to run interference for us in a variety of ways - thank you all!

And now on behalf of Coach DeBaise, Deanna, Kendra, Avri, Lindsay, Caroline, Marley, Maddy, and Marie, here’s to next time across the net when the sun is shining on Gladish courts.
