From the Coaches

ANC Softball picked up the winningest record in school history during the 2017 season, going 11-6. The Lions hit .316 as a team, and had a .448 on base percentage. The team shut out their opponents on four different occasions, and went 8-2 in league play. The Lions saw their highest ever state ranking on MaxPreps, picking up the 26th spot for the week of April 11th.

The Junior Varsity team won the Friends Schools League JV Tournament, going undefeated on the day and outscoring their opponents 42-7.

Stevie M. (junior/P) led the Lions on the mound with 112 strikeouts. She threw 16 complete games, four shutouts, two no-hitters and four games where she only allowed one hit. Katie C. (junior/C) was a force at the plate leading the team in RBIs with 18, while posting a .396 batting average in the clean up spot. Emily C. (senior/3B) was another key contributor, leading the team in runs scored with 25, hits with 23, and a .469 batting average.

The varsity team saw the loss of three key seniors, Emily C. (3B), Katie W. (1B), and Christine D. (LF).

With Stevie M. back on the mound for her senior season, and a core group of talented upperclassmen returning to the field, the Lions are looking forward to a successful 2018 season.

Varsity defeated Friends Central 10-0. Stevie M. tallied 13 strikeouts on the mound in five innings of work, and went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Caitlin I. went 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBI and two stolen bases. Katie C. recorded a triple and Allaina B. added a double.


Junior Varsity improved to 4-0 with a 17-5 victory over Germantown Friends. Carly W. recorded eight strikeouts on the mound for the Lions in three innings of work. Caelyn H. had a triple and scored three runs.


Varsity improved to 7-1 in league play with an 8-1 victory over Germantown Friends. Adele A. went 3 for 3 at the plate, tallying a double and 1 RBI. Hannah K. went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Megan M. recorded 2 RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Allaina B. notched two stolen bases, while Julia S. added two hits and one stolen base. Stevie M. had eight strikeouts on the mound.


Varsity improved to 6-1 in league play with a 6-5 victory over Friends Select. Hannah K. went 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple, 3 runs scored, and 1 RBI. Adele A. tallied two hits while Katie C., Megan M. and Caitlin I. each recorded one hit. Stevie M. had seven strikeouts on the mound.


Junior Varsity went 3-1 at the FSL Tournament to place 2nd overall. The Lions started off the day with a 6-1 victory over George School. Tori H. went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI. The team suffered their only loss of the day 4-1 against Friends Select. Fiona H. recorded a single, 2 stolen bases, and scored the lone run for the Lions. The team defeated Friends Central 13-3. Carling B. went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored, while Julia S. went 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI. Caelyn H. tallied a home run and 3 RBI, and Heather W. went 2 for 2 at the plate. Emory N. recorded a single and scored one run. The Lions finished off the day with a 13-3 victory over Germantown Friends. Kiana F. and Fiona H. both went 2 for 3 at the plate. Caelyn H. notched a triple and 2RBI. Tori H. went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI, while Julia S. added a triple.
