The ANC girls basketball team plays in the Asplundh Field House and is part of the Friends School League (www.friendsschoolleague.org). Lucy R. had 24 points and 18 rebounds as the ANC Lions finished their season with a 37 to 32 win over visiting Kohlet Yeshiva School on Thursday. Natalie D. had 3 points 5 assists and 6 rebounds and Laura Clymer had 10 points in a great all around team effort. Before the game we honored our seniors including Natalie D., Deanna W., Shine J., Sarah C. and Rebecca J. Thank you to the seniors for providing leadership and working hard all season long.

The Lions drew the number 4 seed in the state tournament on Monday down at Episcopal Academy. Episcopal had an extremely talented group of girls and ANC proved to be no match losing 54 to 7. The girls will conclude their season with senior day on Thursday against Kohlet Yeshiva School.

Lucy R. had 27 points and 21 rebounds to lead the ANC Girls basketball team but Perkiomen School pulled away in the second half to win 51 to 36. Natalie D. continued to improve as the ANC offense moved the ball effectively creating opportunities for Lucy and laura inside.

Lucy Raymond had 22 points and 20 rebounds and Laura Clymer chipped in 8 for the Academy of the New Church but Doane Academy escaped ANC with a 3 point win. Bella Beiker and Laura Clymer each had 4 assists. ANC returns to action on 2/9 with a home game against Perkiomen School.

Lucy Raymond had 17 points and Natalie Daum and Bella Bieker each chipped in with 7 points as the Academy of the New Church girls defeated Kohelet Yeshiva High School 40 to 18. The Lions used a good passing attack on the perimeter to help open up the middle on offense. On the boards Lucy Raymond led all rebounders with 12 and added 6 blocked shots. Myrta Asplundh had 4 steals and three points. The ANC Girls go back to league action on Friday and Saturday when they host Moorestown Friends Friday at 3:45 and Friends Select Saturday at 1:30.

Lucy Raymond had 19 points, Laura Clymer 4 and Natalie Daum with 2 points but it wasn’t enough as Upper Moreland won 51 to 25 in non-league action at the Asplundh Field House on Thursday. ANC improved both offensively and defensively on the court as the season marches on. ANC goes on the road next Wednesday against Yeshiva High School in varsity action.

The ANC Girls Basketball team traveled to Westtown last Friday in what hoped to be a competitive game. ANC had a difficult time getting it’s scoring started as Westtown pressed and made things difficult for the Lions. Laura Clymer scored 12 of the 15 points for ANC. Our next game is Tuesday at Friends Central. In the JV game Myrta Asplundh had 8 points to lead the Lions, but Westtown was able to come away with the victory using a very balanced scoring attack. Final score was Westtown 24 and ANC 16.

ANC’s Lucy Raymond led all scorers with 20 points but it wasn’t enough as the Academy of the New Church lost to visiting George School in girls basketball action. S. Heys had 19 for the Cougars with S. Polgar chipping in 8 and B. Hayden with 7 points. ANC’s record is now 0 and 6 (0 and 3 league). Next up for the Lions is Friday at Westtown.

The Academy of the New Church Girls returned from the Christmas Break and opened the New Year against league opponent Germantown Friends School. Caroline Myran paced the Tigers with 19 points as GFS led a fairly balanced attack. The Lions had a number of opportunities in the game. Laura Clymer had 6 points and Lucy Raymond led the Lions with 15. The ANC girls returns to the court on Tuesday against George School at home.

The Academy of the New Church Girls Basketball team traveled to Abington Friends School on Tuesday and while they played good offense and defense they had trouble finishing and putting the ball in the basket. AFS jumped out early led by a balanced scoring attack. Alexa Bowman had 13 points and Bianca Adams had 10. ANC picked up the pace in the second playing an even period with the host Kangaroos. Lucy Raymond had 8 in the second to lead the Lions. ANC moves to 0 and 4 (0 and 1 FSL). The ANC JV team returns to AFS on Wednesday followed by a JV game at Delaware Valley Friends on Thursday.

ANC got out to a 7 to 2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Delaware Valley Friends fought back with 12 points in the second to tie the score at halftime. At the end of the third period the Lions held a slim one point lead but had worked their way into some foul trouble. With a key player on the bench Delaware Valley Friends pulled away in the fourth quarter and won the game 34 to 26. Lucy Raymond was the leading scorer for ANC with 14 points. Laura Clymer had 6 and Rachael Rose had 4 points. Natalie Daum, who was recently named the team captain, continues to improve as a point guard.
12/6/2011 Varsity ANC 16 v. Solebury 46
Lucy Raymond had 13 points, 18 rebounds and 11 blocked shots but it wasn’t enough as the Spartans of Solebury School came away with a 46 to 16 victory. The Lions played improved defense playing man to man for most of the game. Solebury imparted a half court trapping defense that game ANC some challenges for most of the game. The Lions move to 0 and 2 on the season.

In a shortened JV game Myrta Asplundh had 2 and Rachael Rose had 2 but the Lions fell to the Spartans 13 to 4. All in all there is much improvement in the first week of play.
12/1/2011 Varsity ANC 18 v. Jack Barrack Hebrew 36
The ANC girls basketball team opened the scoring in the first quarter running some nice offense to start the game. But Barrack Hebrew Academy came back and in the second quarter scored 17 points. The Lions made a 4th quarter charge scoring 12 points in the final stanza. Lucy Raymond led the Lions with 7 points and 12 blocked shots.
