The objective of the Student Center and Educational Support is to assist students who are struggling academically by providing a variety of services which can enhance their academic success. While ANC is not specifically a remedial school, ESS offers different programs which encompass a variety of academic issues and needs.
Some students may need diagnostic testing in order to provide recommendations to the classroom teachers, and while we are committed to mainstreaming students in as many subjects as possible, we may institute specific support/study skills classes and study periods to supplement the recommendations.
We utilize inclusion strategies and curriculum modifications for mainstreamed students. At the beginning of the academic year and throughout the year as needed, curriculum modifications are put updated and conveyed via individual meetings with classroom teachers. At the end of each academic year the modifications for returning students are evaluated by the department head and sent home to the parents for them to consent their use in the upcoming school year.
Modified courses earn full credit, according to a curriculum specified by the regular teacher and ESS, and approved by the appropriate department. They will be marked 'Modified' on the student transcript.
