Study Hall Protocol

We have a Study Hall program designed to address concerns about students who do not complete assigned homework. When a student fails to submit a homework assignment, the teacher will record the lack of submission in our student management system. At specific intervals, consequences will be provided. The Assistant Principal is responsible for tracking missed assignments and communicating with the student regarding consequences. Please note that the consequence intervals are "global" meaning that they are not limited to a single class, but are inclusive of all incomplete homework across all courses. Academic Advisors are responsible for communicating with the parent(s) regarding consequences. The intervals and respective consequences are:

The first three thresholds are designed to provide adequate notice and warning while providing increasing opportunity for support and assistance.

  • 6 missed assignments: Student is required to attend a 30 minute Study Hall session in the Student Center within two days of being notified by the Assistant Principal. Attendance must be between 2:00 and 4:00 Monday through Thursday. If a Friday or holiday falls within the two day window, the student may extend to the next available school day (M-Th).
  • 8 missed assignments: Student is required to attend a 60 minute Study Hall session in the Student Center within two days of being notified by the Assistant Principal. Attendance must be between 2:00 and 4:00 Monday through Thursday. If a Friday or holiday falls within the two day window, the student may extend to the next available school day (M-Th).
  • 10 missed assignments: Student is required to attend a 60 minute Study Hall session in the Student Center for four consecutive days, beginning within two days of being notified by the Assistant Principal. Attendance must be between 2:00 and 4:00 Monday through Thursday. If a Friday or holiday falls within the two day window, the student may extend to the next available school day (M-Th). If a Friday or holiday falls within the four day consequence period, the student must attend on the next available school day and subsequent school days until the consequence is fulfilled.
  • 12 missed assignments: Student is required to meet with a counselor from Growth Opportunity Center.

Once a student has failed to submit fifteen assignments in a term, the issue has likely moved beyond academic concerns and has become a behavioral concern. The final three thresholds are designed to address the behavioral concern, provide notice and warning, and provide for support and assistance.

  • 15 missed assignments: Same consequence as 10 missed assignments. In addition, the student is required to perform an hour of detention and is placed on Academic Probation.
  • 17 missed assignments: Student is suspended for one day.
  • More than 17 missed assignments: Principal and Assistant Principal consult to establish appropriate consequences at this stage and moving forward.
