Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools

Quote of the Month

"Love consists in desiring to give what is one's own to another. To feel the joy of another as joy in oneself -- that is loving."

Emanuel Swedenborg,
Divine Love and Wisdom

Spiritual Life

In the Academy schools, moral and spiritual education are the ultimate goal, and there are many avenues for religious inquiry and expression.

Religious Education

The school day begins with a chapel service, given by one of the ministers on staff, or guest ministers from related schools or societies of the church. Regular chapel services are offered in the dorms.

Religion class is a regular part of the curriculum, exploring the scriptures and their relation to everyday life.

These religious principals are woven into the fabric of all subject areas, and are practiced in the athletics and social life of the school.

A Community Dedicated to Spiritual Growth

The Boys School and Girls School of the Academy of the New Church are situated in Bryn Athyn, a community of about two thousand, most of whom are members of the General Church of the New Jerusalem.

A variety of church services — from formal to contemporary — are offered by the Bryn Athyn Church.

Religious counseling is available from the school chaplain, any of the ministers on staff, or from the Pastor's Office of the Bryn Athyn Church.

Students may take part in programs on spiritual topics, a variety of camps and retreats, and special classes devoted to moral and spiritual learning.

Students are also welcome to join a variety of organizations devoted to charity and other activities, as well as support groups of various kinds.
