"Love consists in desiring to give what is one's own to another. To feel the joy of another as joy in oneself -- that is loving."

"Even the smallest moment of our lives involves a series of consequences extending to eternity."
~ Emanuel Swedenborg (Arcana Celestia 6490)
Stuart Hall is the residential facility for the Academy of the New Church Boys' School. It houses male students in grades 9-12 from the United States, Canada, and overseas. The dormitory shapes itself as a deliberate community centered on the theological tenants of the New Church.
The dorm is staffed by faculty members who serve as housemasters as well as several resident assistants.
Dorm life centers around several programs. Students attend mandatory study hall in the evening. Students likewise are expected to participate in our evening and Sunday worship program. We strongly encourage students to involve themselves in the dorm fraternity, the Phi Alpha, as well as small group teams that meet weekly, and various community service opportunities.
Guidelines
We encourage students to develop a positive approach to the New Church, a disciplined work ethic in regards to academics, and to make use of our extracurricular offerings. Students are expected to uphold the four pillars of the dorm--Diligence, Honesty, Courteousness, and Integrity. In simple terms, we expect all students to demonstrate persistent effort and attentive care; to strive to be truthful, thoughtful, and respectful. Further, we expect our students to practice well mannered morality with the opposite sex, and to avoid drugs and alcohol. We strive to live these moral virtues by using the teachings of the New Church to guide their application.
FAQs
What furniture is included in the room?
Each room includes a bed, a mattress, a desk, a chair, a bookshelf, a bulletin board, a dresser, and a mirror.
Are students allowed to bring their own furniture?
Students are permitted to exchange the school supplied desk chair for one of their own. Additionally, a small shelving unit, a desk (or floor) lamp, and a rug (5’ x 7’) are allowed. An extra chair for visitors is permitted; however, we do ask that students refrain from being couches, loveseats, entertainment cabinets, or coffee tables, as space in the rooms is limited.
Are students allowed to decorate their rooms?
Students are allowed to tastefully decorate their rooms. We ask students to refrain from hanging any objects that depict drugs, alcohol, smoking, or anything sexually suggestive. Students are welcome to tack up their decor on the bulletin boards as well as hang them on the walls with Ticky-Tack. No tape, please. Nothing shall be adhered to the ceilings or windows.
