'CAPPIES' GALA

Getting the Red Carpet Treatment

At the Greater Philadelphia Cappies Gala last night ANC was proud to receive two awards:  “Best Set” and “Best Stage Crew” !  It was an outstanding event all around.  The nominees went early to practice their march and receive a nominee’s medallion.  Around 4:30 they rolled out the red carpet and had the “paparazzi” and screaming fans lining the walk in.  Everyone was dressed in gowns/dresses or suits/tuxes and looked great!

The Awards Show was extremely well run.  Justine Brannon and Natalie Thomas were in the opening number along with students from other participating schools.  Margaret was a presenter (unfortunately she didn’t get to present us with any awards!).  Every school that was nominated for best play, musical or song performed the “Critics Choice Song” so we performed “Warts and All.”

Graham Pitcairn represented ANC to receive the “Best Set” award and Aven Rose and Lyndon O’Connor received the “Best Stage Crew” award.  We are especially happy that the Stage Crew won considering that we had to beg, convince and bribe most of them to join!  Only a few even had experience being on Stage Crew before.   Way to go Aven, Lyndon, Ian A., Tyrell, Jon C., Allison D., Madeline F., Jeff H., Warren G., Sammy G., Lewis N., Reagan, Russell P., Evan S., Jaron S., Ian T., and David G. !!

Inquirer Write-up Here

We had about 60 people at the Gala cheering for ANC every time our name was announced.  I think we showed that we had school spirit!

We felt very honored to be included in the “Best Musical” Category, especially after seeing the huge musicals that the other nominated schools put on.  Most of the other schools in the program are very large and for our little 250 student school to be in their ranks is amazing.

Last night and at the three rehearsals these last two weeks we were complimented constantly about our students.  The GP Cappies directors were especially effusive about working with our Cappies Critics team (Stef Q., Justine, Deryn, TJ and Hosanna) at 6 different shows.  I can’t count how many times I heard “Your kids are great!” or “I love your kids!”.

It was such a positive program all around, and ending it last night with an entire evening dedicated to spotlighting high school theater was fabulous! -- Sarah Cooper
