10/3/08 - Lower Moreland 1 at ANC 3 (6-3-1, 3-1)
ANC hosted neighborhood rival Lower Moreland on Friday afternoon. While the host Lions pressured throughout the first half, Lower Moreland went up on a breakaway goal for a 1-0 halftime lead. ANC came out hard in the second half, and continued to pressure until Jon Riles opened the scoring on an assist from Kenny Ross. Minutes later, Jon set up Dana Ayers for a goal. Blake McCurdy wrapped up the scoring when he buried a drop pass from Kenny. The defensive efforts of Cade Kindred, James Kim, Stephen Rohtla, Adriano Maestri, Dana Ayers and Caleb Sansom allowed the visitors only 4 shots on goal.
10/1/08 - Moorestown Friends 2 at ANC 3 (5-3-1, 3-1)
ANC hosted the Foxes of Moorestown Friends on Wednesday. The conditions were slick and there were plenty of miscues and near misses. The visitors went up first, but Caleb Sansom equalized, then Kenny Ross put the Lions up with a goal just before the half. Moorestown tied things up late in the second half and it looked as though the Lions might head into overtime in their second straight league game. But with minutes left, freshman Travis McCurdy hit Kenny with a pass to set up a breakaway and the winning goal. Kenny's goals on the afternoon make him the all-time goal leader and total points leader in ANC boys soccer history. This achievement is supported by the exceptional chemistry and team play of this year's squad. They are an exciting team to watch.
The Lions are not 5-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Friends League. They host local rivals Lower Moreland on Friday.
9/29/08 - ANC 1 (4-3-1, 2-1) at Hun School 3
ANC traveled to Princeton to take on Hun School, a perennial powerhouse.
The Lions hoped that things might go their way this year, but couldn't put together their best game on this Monday afternooon. Hun took a 1-0 halftime lead, then added two more before ANC could reply. Finally, on the tap after the third goal, Kenny Ross found Blake McCurdy with a long ball to spring him for a breakaway goal. ANC is now 4-3-1, 2-1 in the Friends League. They will host Moorestown Friends on Wednesday.
9/26/08 - George School 4 at ANC 3 (4-2-1, 2-1)
The Lions were handed their first league loss in a heartbreaker against George School on Friday. The Cougars came out hard, attacking in the air to create two early goals. ANC fought back and created some pressure when Kenny Ross beat 3 defenders on the endline to set up a goal by Travis McCurdy, who had positioned himself perfectly at the back post. Unfortunately, the visitors capitalized again to make it 1-3 at halftime. The Lions made the second half exciting, playing a good possession game and creating several opportunities. Caleb Sansom finished one mishandled ball to get the Lions back in the game. Chris Hyatt put a beautiful, long-range shot off the crossbar, which added to the excitement. Finally, with 3 minutes left in regulation, Jon Riles finished to tie things up and send the game into overtime.
Unfortunately, George School pounced on a miscleared ball in overtime and hit a long-range shot for the gamewinner. The Lions are now 4-2-1,
2-1 in the Friends League. They travel to Hun School on Monday.
9/23/08 - Varsity Boys Soccer - Friends Select 0 at ANC 4 (4-1-1, 2-0)
Four different players tallied to earn ANC's fourth straight win. Kenny Ross opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but play remained somewhat even until halftime. ANC came out in more aggressively in the midfield during the second half and was able to create more opportunities. Jon Riles, Chris Hyatt and Blake McCurdy each notched goals. The Lions defense allowed 0 shots on goal, to record a 3rd shutout on the season.
ANC is now 4-1-1 and 2-0 in the league. They will host George School on Friday.
9/19/08 - ANC 2 (3-1-1, 1-0) at Friends Central 0
The Lions opened their Friends League campaign with a road victory at Friends Central. While the Lions played well and, at times, seemed to have the upper hand, the Phoenix played tough defense and denied several scoring opportunities until the last seconds of the first half. Dana Ayers' pass led Kenny Ross in on a breakaway, which he finished just before the whistle. Both teams played aggressively in the second half, but the Lions' momentum continued to build. In the 74th minute, Caleb Sansom caught the home keeper off his line with a nice cross, which Kenny finished for the insurance goal. Dustin Synnestvedt and the defense recorded their second shutout of the season. ANC is now 3-1-1 and 1-0 in the league. They will host Friends Select on Tuesday.
9/16/08 - Church Farm 2 at ANC 4 (2-1-1)
Four ANC players contributed goals in a dominant home win over Church Farm on Tuesday. Kenny Ross opened the scoring with a tally in the closing minute of the first half. Jon Riles opened the second half with his first ANC goal, when he finished a beautiful cross from Chris Hyatt.
Greg Synnestvedt had his first goal of the season on assist from Caleb Sansom. And while the visiting Griffins managed 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of the game, Nick Tate fed Blake McCurdy to add an insurance goal to the victory. Team captain Cade Kindred anchored solid defensive efforts by James Kim, Stephen Rohtla, Caleb Sansom and Dana Ayers. This brings the Lions record to 2-1-1 as they look to open their Friends League campaign at Friends Central on Friday.
9/12/08 - ANC 3 (1-1-1) at Perkiomen 0
The Varisty Boys Soccer Lions traveled to Perkiomen on Friday and earned their first win of the season. It was a rainy afternoon and playing conditions made for a sloppy game. ANC possessed well, but had difficulty finishing and occasionally lost a past due to slow, waterlogged conditions. At halftime, the game was scoreless. The Lions applied even more pressure in the second half. Finally, a neat combination between Travis McCurdy, Kenny Ross and Blake McCurdy, led to the opening goal by Kenny. Dana Ayers finished a beautiful solo effort 5 minutes later, and Kenny completed the scoring after a clever flick-on header from Caleb Sansom. Cade Kindred, Steve Rohtla and James Kim anchored a solid defensive effort for the Lions. Dustin Synnestvedt earned his first shutout on the season with 8 saves in net. The Lions won 3-0 taking their record to 1-1-1. They play Church Farm at home on Tuesday
9/9/08 - New Hope/Solebury 2 at ANC 2 (0-1-1)
Boys varsity soccer team opened their home season with a strong start against the visiting Lions from NHS. The home team pulled to an early lead in the 4th minute on a goal by Kenny Ross, assisted on a through-ball from Jon Riles. NHS answered before halftime to tie it up 1-1, then tried to seal a victory with a second goal in the 55th minute. Kenny Ross tallied his second goal however, on an assist from Chris Hyatt. ANC pressed hard in the final ten minutes, creating several opportunities, but had to settle for the tie 2-2. Dustin Synnestvedt had 12 saves in goal. After getting a more solid game under their belts, these Lions are looking forward to Perkiomen on Friday.
9/5/08 - ANC 0 (0-1) at Pennington 5
Only four days into the school year, the Lions varsity boys soccer team opened their season by traveling to Pennington on Friday afternoon. The hosts fielded a talented squad and went up 4-0 by halftime. ANC learned from a few mistakes, adjusted their game, and played a scoreless half until Pennington netted a final goal in the closing minutes. More improvement is anticipated in the following weeks and the team is looking forward to their home opener on Tuesday against New Hope-Solebury.
