JVB Game Recaps

JVB Boys Soccer team ties Hill for the 2nd time this year - Soccer B/JVB - 10/18/08

Lions lose to GFS 1-3 on the road - Soccer B/JVB - 10/17/08

ANC dominated play and gave the Tigers only a handful of opportunities.

Unfortunately, the hosts were able to convert on each.  Christian Buss answered with his 3rd goal of the season, but the Lions were unable to to pull any closer.

Lions JVB team gets above .500 with a win at Church Farm- Soccer B/JVB - 10/15/08

10/8/08 - ANC 0 at Shipley 1 (3-3-1)

The JVB suffered their first loss in almost a month, dropping a close match at Shipley School.  The Lions had their opportunities, including a sweet volley by freshman Ben Adams, but Shipley was the team who found the net in the end.  Tyler Hill played another fine game at sweeper.

10/4/08 - ANC 1 at Hill School 1 (3-2-1)

The JVB kept their unbeaten streak alive on Saturday in Pottstown.

Kellen Ayers was in net, which gave Anders Smith a chance to play on the field for a game.  Anders took advantage of the opportunity to put on in the net himself.  Cade Gurney took a ball down the corner of the field, then deftly passed back to Anders, who calmly finished from 15 yards.

The Lions played well throughout the game, but the home team managed to combine for a tying goal late in the second half.  There were good opportunities in overtime, but the score remained knotted.  Tyler Hill did a great job anchoring the defense, while Christian Buss, Bob Asplundh and Cade Gurney repeatedly combined in the attacking end of the field. Kellen came out of his box to make several quality saves.

9/25/08 - Science Leadership Academy 2 at ANC 3 (3-2)

The JVB won their third straight game at home on Thursday.  Science Leadership is in only their second year and fields a single soccer squad.  This included several quality players, which made for a tighter game than last season.  The scoring went back and forth, with ANC taking the lead twice, only to be tied minutes later each time.  Initial goals came from Bob Allen and Ben Adams.  Finally, in the second half, Bob tallied again, nodding in a corner kick to the back post for the gamewinner.  Anders Smith had a solid second half in goal to preserve the win.

9/20/08 - ANC 2 (2-2) at George School 1

The JVB traveled to George School on Saturday.  This proved to me a more competitive match than the first against the Cougars, and the Lions earned their second victory of the week.  Cade Gurney put ANC ahead in the first half on an opportunistic finish in front of the goal.  The hosts converted a penalty kick to tie things up and make the second half even more exciting.  With only several minutes left in the game, Tyler Hill sent a  free kick into the box, where Ben Adams settled the ball for Christian Buss, who buried it in the upper corner for the winning goal.

9/17/08 - Delaware Valley Friends 0 at ANC 3 (1-2)

The JVB hosted Delaware Valley Friends on Tuesday and earned their first victory.  In an considerable improved effort, the Lions controlled the game and created many chances.  Bob Allen, Josh Cole and Ben Adams each tallied for the win.  Anders Smith earned the shutout in goal.  The JVB are now 1-2 and will travel to Newtown for a second chance against George Shool on Saturday.

9/13/08 - ANC 0 (0-2) at Hun School 2

The JVB traveled to Hun School on Saturday.  They improved on their first game and held things even through the first half.  Hot weather and a shallow bench proved to be a tough combination though, as the host were able to apply more pressure in the second half and score two goals.
