Unless otherwise noted, all courses meet four periods per week for 4 points credit per term, and are weight A.
Senior Project. This course develops fundamentals of leadership and communication by examining regeneration and faith. It allows students to explore a topic of their own choosing, combining class instruction, independent study and mentoring to support their endeavor. Each project begins with a research paper which emphasizes critical thinking. Students then complete a project related to their research and organize a portfolio record of all work. In addition, each student offers a service to their community that is related to their project. The course concludes with a public presentation. “Purpose,” “Stretch” and “Challenge” are central themes of this course. Many students invest a great deal of time in this course, but also find it exceptionally rewarding. Weight B.
Yearbook. Credit can be given for participating in the production of the yearbook, at the discretion of the advisor. A total of 15 hours of participation is required to earn one credit. Thirty hours of participation can earn two credits. Skills and knowledge of what goes into the production of a quality book must be mastered to earn these credits.
The Academian. Academic credit may be earned for work on the school newspaper, The Academian, at the discretion of the advisor. Artists, writers and grammarians are welcome to join the staff. Staff members will be expected to meet on a regular basis. Credit will vary with the amount of time given to the production of the paper, as well as journalistic skills learned in the process.
